slab was leveled, stained and polished. An accessible restroom and
shower were added. The basement opens onto a quiet rear patio,
furnished simply with picnic tables and planters.
Upstairs, a library and conference space provides a quiet
retreat from the bustle of the shared workspaces below.
Service functions (kitchens, bathrooms, and storage) are
efficiently clustered in the rear of the building. HVAC system
improvements include an upgraded air handler and independently
controlled ductless split systems on each floor.
In a neighborhood on the cusp of transformation, Mains envi-
sions 5 Points as a bridge between longtime residents and new
arrivals. So far, he’s seeing signs of success. Local business owners,
including the barber two blocks down, frequently swing by to say
hello. ANC meetings have been held after hours in the street-level
space. Freelancers and aspiring business owners are connecting
with each other, building community one relationship at a time.
