                 Respecting the owners’ wishes to work with the
        existing structure as much as possible, the design team,
        which included project architect Justin Donovan, AIA, and
        Nolan Ediger, AIA, LEED Green Associate, prioritized
        the most problematic aspects of the house. Chief among
        these from an aesthetic standpoint were the chaotic
        roofscape, lack of views to the woods, and what Donovan
        described as a “depressing” arrival experience. The
        architects realized that the southeast corner of the house,
        surrounding the main entry, was the spot where all of
        these problems collided. A relatively modest alteration
        there could go a long way toward improving the house’s
        appearance and livability.
