of School Buildings

Over the last decade, the District of Columbia has made Gallery Hours
a substantial investment in modernizing its public Monday–Wednesday: 10am–7pm
school buildings, and the city’s public charter schools Thursday–Friday: 10am–5pm
and private schools have also made major investments Saturday–Sunday: Closed
in their facilities.
The design of these new and renovated schools has AIA|DC is very grateful for the support
moved the architecture of learning spaces well beyond of this exhibition by:
the basics of traditional school design. Like DC’s widely Benefactors
praised new public library buildings, these modernized Perkins Eastman DC
school buildings employ innovative architecture to Bell Architect + Newman Architects
better achieve their mission.
What prompted the District’s school rebuilding Supporting Sponsors
effort? What difference does good school design
make for student learning? And what design features Bowie Gridley Architects
do the city’s new school buildings incorporate? This cox, graae + spack architects
exhibit explores these questions by looking at 19 of Hord Coplan Macht
the District’s modernized public, public charter, and ISTUDIO Architects
